Do you like snow, up to 18 ft in a year, on average about 10-12 ft with a depth of about 5 ft. Are you looking for one of the greatest challenges of your life?
Do you have a business you can operate with a phone and an Internet connection?
If you answered yes to these questions or want to grow into this kind of person, You are looking at the right property to purchase.
Remote Mountain Cabin
This remote mountain cabin has approximately 1400 ft.² of living space. It has a custom built half log archway and custom built-in wood and half log shelves. Most of the floors have easy care polyurethane coated wood. There is an engineered snow roof designed to handle the snow load.
Utilities
There is a well providing some of the best tasting drinking water you will ever experience. There is running water to the kitchen sink (cold only). A 5000 watt gas generator is provided to get you started. There are deep cycle batteries which provide convenient storage for electricity and an 1000 watt inverter. There is a telephone line to the property and DSL is a available. There is a descent shot at the southern sky allowing for satellite Internet or satellite television if you choose. Did I mention this property is off-grid? Access to electricity is approximately half a mile away. You will be producing your own electricity so it is a good idea to be conservative.
Woodshed
A large woodshed 16' x 24' allows storage of 24 plus cords of wood. There is an older shop/garage, not pretty, but functional with a rustic sauna (the best I've ever used) built in one corner. The shop has a double barrel wood stove for heat.
The Land
This spot is not for wimps, those that are fainthearted, or those that are weak. The land consists of 20 acres of rocks, hills, gullies, a change of elevation of about 500 feet from one end to the other, with plenty of trees. As the crow flies this property is about 10 miles from Canada and located west of Glacier Park.
The Road
The access road can be challenging - although it has had recent improvement. This is truck country - 4 wheel drive only certain times of the year. Summer you can use an average car but drive slow and careful. If you don't plow the last mile you will probably be snowed in for a few months every year. The road is 3 1/2 miles long - the first 2 1/2 miles is a mostly unmaintained forest road - the last mile is a private road. The road is gravel, dirt, rock, and at certain times of year mud. If you like mudding - this road can be an absolute hoot. There are certain times of year that 1000 feet of this road can be little more than a mud bog. Well, maybe I'm overstating a bit, but there have been times and I hope you get the picture. If you do not have to go anywhere this road can be the perfect isolating mechanism for your own private retreat. Got a Hummer or tank, not worried about the road, take your best shot.
Neighbors
What about neighbors you ask? The closest neighbor is about a half a mile away - on the other side of a rock wall over a ridge. Are the neighbors friendly you ask? Well let's just say people don't socialize a lot in this particular area. You may get along with some or all of the neighbors. You probably won't see them very often unless you venture into town or down to the post office. There is no mail delivery at this particular property. However you do get a free P.O. Box down at the local post office - which is 13 miles away - 2 miles if you were to go through the woods. It is probably not an option. UPS and FedEx deliveries; forget it! If you're creative, and willing to wait, and not uncomfortable with an extra day or two of delivery time, then you may be able to get FedEx or UPS deliveries as close as 3 1/2 miles from the house. I can guarantee that the drivers will not be excited about it!
Towns and Cities
The closest town is Trego, which is approximately 13 miles away. The town consists of an elementary school, a post office, a restaurant/General store, and a few mobile homes. The next largest town is Eureka which is approximately 25 miles away. It's a town with a population of approximately 1500. It is your typical small town with a couple of grocery stores, a couple of banks, a couple of service stations and a few restaurants. The nearest town or city after this would be Whitefish or Kalispell. The combination of these two towns makes an urban area of what some would consider substantial size, however small in comparison to any in large metropolitan area. Kalispell is large enough to have a number of McDonald's, a Wal-Mart, Costco, Taco Johns, Taco Bell, Best Buy, Target and other stores of this nature. In the summer time you could probably make it to Kalispell in approximately an hour and a half. In the winter, there is no average time, it all depends on the weather and could take you as long as five hours.
Who would this property be perfect for?
Writers
A perfect place for a writer. Quiet, solitude, and a place to be away from it all. A place to collect your thoughts and write them down to fulfill your purpose or create your masterpiece. With DSL available or satellite Internet providing the contact and promotion opportunities you need to pursue your career.
Hunters
Abundant wildlife in the area and plenty on the property including mountain lion, bobcat, badger, coyote, fox, grouse, rabbit, etc. White tailed deer, black bear, and moose may drop in for dinner (or be dinner). How would you like to shoot your next deer from your doorstep? Here is an true story. Man wakes up and walks out into the dining room. He sees two deer standing in the yard. The man grabs his rifle and shoots his buck. His wife crawls out of bed and puts on coffee. The man goes out to field dress his trophy. After field dressing his buck he comes back in the house to a hot cup of coffee, a hot breakfast and a crackling fire.
Do you like to practice shooting? You can site in your rifle and sharpen your pistol skills. How many places in the world can you shoot off thousands of rounds and not be bothered? Sounds ideal doesn't it? Remember it is a challenge to live here and it's not for everyone.
Survivalists
This could be a perfect defendable property if your intention is survival. The "cabin" is not visible from any road. There are several locations which would easily accommodate construction of above or under ground structures which could blend or disappear into the environment.
Extreme athletes
For those who love snowshoeing or cross-country skiing this could be one of the best properties you will ever find. Step out your door, grab your snow shoes, or your cross-country skis and head off into the woods. Hundreds of acres of land nearby to play on. Thousands of acres of government land close by. The terrain is extreme. Plenty of incline and decline - you'll get a real workout here. And how about mountain biking. There are so many forest roads, old dirt roads, and skid roads that you could ride for days and never see a soul. How about trail running or hiking? With trails through the woods, the old forest roads, and skid roads you can hike or run until your legs fall off. You want a challenge - try this terrain. You want to prepare for a marathon - try this terrain. You want to prepare for an ultra-marathon - this is the place for you.
Snow - Snow - Snow
Do you like snow? Do you love snow? If you do then this is the place for you. There is an average snowfall of from 10 to 15 feet. Most of the winter there is 4 to 6 feet of snow on the ground. Temperatures average from the mid teens to the high 30s.
Spiritual Growth
Are you looking to grow spiritually? If you are then this is the place for you. With all the solitude and the rugged terrain you will feel totally alone. At that point that's the time you have only God to turn to. There will be days in an area like this where you find yourself looking inward and wondering what life is all about.
Hard Work
Do you like to work hard? Do you like challenging work? Is physical labor your thing? If you answered yes to these questions - then this is the place for you. Imagine splitting cord after cord of wood and stacking it in your large woodshed to dry. This could be one of the chores you're involved in just to keep warm in the winter. Sure you could install a different type of heating system. But there is nothing like a wood-fired stove to take the chill out of the bones and warm a sore back.
Have I scared you with these descriptions?
Do you feel up for the challenge?
Do you dare to stretch yourself like you never have before?
Are you ready to leave the world behind?

Remember: as a final warning, this property is not for everybody. It is more easily handled in small doses. An example would be a summer cabin. Another example would be a mountain hunting cabin. Yet another example would be a survival retreat. If you only use it in winter time you would probably have to snowmobile, snowshoe, or cross-country ski to the property. If you really want a challenge - I dare you to live there year round; however, be aware you could be risking your life or your sanity.
