Learning About The American Redoubt

Have you heard about The American Redoubt, but don’t know where to start? Despite what some sensationalistic journalists have suggested, it’s not an anti-government conspiracy. The American Redoubt is nothing more that a decentralized migration of ordinary families and individuals seeking liberty and opportunity in America’s inland northwest.

As Wikipedia defines it:

The American Redoubt is a political migration movement first proposed in 2011 by survivalist novelist and blogger James Wesley Rawles which designates three states in the northwestern United States (Idaho, Montana, Wyoming), and adjoining portions of two other states (eastern Oregon, and eastern Washington) as a safe haven for conservative, libertarian-leaning Christians and Jews. James Wesley, Rawles chose this area due to its low population density and lack of natural hazards. [source]

Although there are no identified leaders of the movement, a number of voices have been influential in defining, encouraging, and supporting it:

James Wesley, Rawles, editor of SurvivalBlog.com provided the first definition, and named the “American Redoubt” movement, identifying the states of Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and the eastern portions of Washington and Oregon as key destinations for relocation. Around the same time, Pastor Chuck Baldwin made a notable move from Pensacola, Florida to Kalispell, Montana, and promoted the migration of liberty-loving Patriots to the region.

John Jacob Schmidt, is the host of Radio Free Redoubt and founder of the American Redoubt Radio Operators Network (AmRRON). You can hear his weekly shows on the web and on KTW Spokane. Both of these efforts have been instrumental in strengthening the patriot movement across the inland northwest and nationwide.

Alex Barron has provided advocacy and support for the movement for years, notably at the Charles Carroll Society blog and podcast. He is also notable for his 2019 primary campaign for Idaho Senate.

A number of patriotic news outlets have also sprung up, including the excellent Redoubt News and Family Redoubt sites, Matt Shea’s Patriot Radio podcast, and the Inland Northwest Report.
